The RCMP Union, known as the National Police Federation (NPF), have stepped-in to protect its union members. The vaccination attestation deadline was Monday November 15th.
Although not widely know or being publicized by the Federal Government, hundreds of extensions and temporary exemptions have been granted to those who have confirmed they are on long-term medical leave.
RCMP employees who will not be returning to work any time soon because of a medical or mental illness are not required to disclose their vaccination status and are not required to submit to testing nor a vaccination until they are deemed fit for duty by a medical practitioner.
If you know of an RCMP officer or RCMP family member who is in this position – yet is being coerced to attest to their vaccination status and/or be vaccinated while on medical leave – please have them reach out to their NPF Representative as soon as possible. We also recommend they visit Mounties4Freedom where their Open Letter has accumulated over 65,000 signatures!
For MyAPSChoice Group members, if you are in a similar circumstance, in other words absent from work because of an illness or medical disability, (not just a LTDI) you may have additional protections under the Alberta Human Rights Act and may be more eligible for an accommodation. Stand your ground.
